Ive tried for years but cant come up with a connection between Matthias wolford and johann Adam .
I am getting ready for a huge Avery Reunion and research bash for next Friday thru the following Monday, Will work on this when I get back. I know Elaine Wolford had some info about Mathias.
I did find some info about Johann Adam Wolford and wife Elizabeth Ritenaur - Their daughter Rosina Wolford b.2 Feb 1777 in MD married Jacob Kitzmiller b. 10 June 1770 m 20 Nov 1796 Washington Co MDd. 18 Nov 1852 Their son John Kitzmiller b. abt 24 June 1799 Boonsboro in WashingtonCo MD d. 9 Nov 1862 Washington Co MD bur Fairview Cem. I have a little bit more info onKitzmiller. If interested let me know.
Adams son, John W. Wolford was born in frederick county maryland on aug,11,1763. and married a Catherine Lidener, who was born feb 8th 1764. i dont have a death date for either of them.
Does anyone have clue where Adam and Elizabeth may have been buried?
Washington County probate records for his father lists his name; he is recorded first so perhaps is eldest. He sponsors his sister's son (Elizabeth and George Klein), John George, on March 16, 1796 at the Reformed Church in Elizabethtown (Hagerstown). A Washington County Court land record dated July 2 1804 reports that Mathias sold his share of the family farm to his brother Henry. In the document, Matthias is recorded as living in Allegany County, Maryland and his wife’s name as Matilda. He cannot be found on the Federal Census there; and may have headed west to join his brothers and the Kitzmillers in Ohio.

Colleen,
Thank you.
The Matthew/Mathias I have, I am trying to discover who his parents were. My Matthew died by 1870 Belleville, Richland Co, Ohio AGE 85 where he had lived since 1830c. Previously in the 1820c Ohio, Fairfield Co, Hocking in which county he married Nov 1814 Christina Hawers. Matthew was a soldier in the War 1812 in the 1st regiment of Williamson's Ohio militia. So I am looking for parents of a Matthew born ca 1785 in MD or VA. Matthew was a potter by trade.
Any info/help appreciated.
You are welcome. And let me thank you for information that you've shared about Wolfords of the last few years in various places. I have found it very useful.

Hocking seems to have been an attractive location for the children of Adam Wolford of MD and some of his descendants, at least through his son John William Wolford of Hampshire County, WV (who I have an interest in). I do think the Mathias I mentioned above ended up in Ohio.

As you are probably aware, there is a Matthias, or Matthew, Wolford (age 45+) born in Maryland listed on the 1820 Federal Census for Hocking, Fairfield County, Ohio near the names Jacob and David Wolford. Depending on his age, this could be a younger Matthias (yours?) or the brother of Jacob and David. Also settling in Fairfield County were a number of Kitzmillers including Adam and Elizabeth Kitzmiller and Matthias’ niece, his brother, Henry’s daughter, Elizabeth Wolford and her husband John Kitzmiller. Also in some searches I've done, I've noticed that the name Matilda (name of Matthias' wife) appears in younger generations in Ohio (though I did not keep a record of where I saw this information).

I would be remiss not to add (in case you do not know) that there was a Frederick Wolford who made pottery in Woodstock, Shenandoah County, VA as early as 1772. I think he was related to Adam from MD (but no proof). He is also probably the Frederick who came with his brother Conrad on Phoenix in 1749. Conrad ended up in Washington County, Maryland (where Adam lived) as in 1778 there is a Court Writ naming him acting on behalf of a Samuel Irwin.Sources: 1.Shenandoah Pottery: http://shenandoahpottery.com/shenandoah_pottery.html AND 2.Western Maryland Regional Library. “Original Writs to November Court, 1778. Entry 51, Conrad Wolford for Samuel Irwin,” Washington County Court, 1778-1888 [wccr119], http://www.whilbr.org/itemdetail.aspx?idEntry=3684&dtPointer=2.

I do keep track of these names because someday I hope to make a connection between Adam Wolford of MD with the Wolfords of Lancaster, PA.
Correction: The 1820 Census for Hocking Ohio has a Matthew (or Matthias depending on how you read it); but of course it does not list birth state on this census.
