Hoover ??
My great grandmother was a Shoemaker from Berks County,PA ca 1810.(I read this in her obit..which was thown away after
Aunt died)
I have never found any documentation except her son Lewis" Hoover "Briner
listed her on his Nebraska marriage licence...1st one..Betsy Shumaker 2nd one Elizabeth Shoemaker.
Census records:list her as Eliza Briner.(wife of Jacob Briner) 1850-1860-1870-1880.Could the Hoover name have come from this connection?
HUH HUH...more to ponder..
As I understand it, the Hoover/Huber family was closely allied with the Shoemaker/Shumacher family. The Hoovers were originally in Pennsylvania (Berks and Lancaster counties), before moving to Pendleton and Rockingham counties in Virginia (Shenandoah Valley). Many descendants are still in that area of VA.

Could be a connection here! I've found, a lot of times, mother's gave their maiden surname to their sons as a middle name, so it is possible that Eliza, wife of Jacob Briner had Hoover family ties - possibly maternal line.?
