Ann, I have a William Shankland marrying Helen Harris in 1857 at New Cumnock, but have no further information on him.

Rosemary, are you sure of your date? I have the marriage of William Shankland and Helen Harris as taking place in New Cumnock in 1879 (on 21st February, to be precise).
