My 6th ggfather is William Flockhart of Dunning in Perth. Unfortunately, Scottish OPRs show two William Flockharts of the right age: c.11 Dec 1720, son of Patrick Flockhart and Margaret Sharp, and c. 20 Sep 1719, son of Ninian Flockhart and Sarah Young - I have no idea how to have to establish which is the right William.

Thoughts?

Hi Charles
One tack might be to construct both trees and then compare naming patterns which may give a clue. Trying to establish the occupation of both fathers and then following to William's marriage might also give a clue. Sometimes MI's can be useful in sorting out families. I don't know if you've looked at wills on Scotland's People, there maybe something relevant. Seems like a lot of maybe's and mights but that all part of the chase.

Good suggestions. btw, William married Margaret Henderson in Dunning on 14 May 1748
