Trying to decide parents of gggrandfather, Robert BEVERIDGE. Married Cecilia FISHER 25 Feb 1831 in Kirkcaldy, Fife. Children Robert, David, Mary and Margaret all born in Dysart, Fife between 1832-1841. Cecilia was born in 1805 in Aberdour, Fife, but not sure when Robert was born or to whom. Too many Robert Beveridges!!! His father was also Robert Beveridge and both were sailors. His father was alive in 1831 when Robt. and Cecilia were married. Cecilia died in Dysart, Fife in 1883. I can find Cecilia and her children on the 1841 census in Dysart, but Robert must have been at sea. Haven't looked for census on father since there are so many Robert Beveridges. Does anyone connect to this family???

Thanks.

Have you looked at the rest of the census records for Robert and Cecelia? They might give clues to any extended family. Also, there can't be that many Robert Beveridges that were sailors so you need to trawl the census records. How do you know father Robert was alive in 1831? The Kirkcaldy parish records are very good as they name the fathers of the bride and groom, but this does not mean he was still living. Look at names of Robert and Cecelia's children - there tends to be a naming system - any girls? Look at the names of the eldest two if there are, one of them is likely named after Robert's mother which will help narrow down which Robert you are looking for. Have you looked for Robert's death record? If he died after 1855 this will give his mother's name also. Then go to the IGI site and look for his parents marriage and any children before going to Scotlandspeople for the images. Fife Family History Association http://www.fifefhs.org/ also sell a pre1855 death index cd you might find helpful and have lots of other free stuff on their site - Kirkcaldy is well covered.
