My great grandmother Ellen Ada Schofield was born in Oldham, Lancashire  3 Feb 1893.

 

Her father was James Schofield (1860-1934) son of Eli Schofield (1840-1883) & Ellen Whitehead (1841-1926), Eli was the son of James Schofield & Jane Jackson. Ellen was the daughter of Joseph Whitehead and Jane Buckley.

 

Her mother was Ada Schofield (1861-1901) daughter of Samuel Schofield & Jane Brierley, married in 1859 . I do not know anything of Samuel or Jane's parents. Prestwich, St. Mary, Lancashire.

 

Both of Ellen's grandmothers came over to America, Ada coming with her parents and Ellen, they arrived in Oct 1893. They lived in Mercer county, IL. I would love to find out more about the Schofield's in Oldham. I understand that Samuel's family was not from that area, may have been from a more southern area of England. I do not know his parents names.

Hi Mark,

Just thought I'd check to see if our Scoffield/Schofield lines connect.  I am descended from Mary H. Schofield (b. abt 1872 in England) that married James Marshall in Philadelphia.  I believe Mary's parents are Thomas & Hannah Schofield possibly from Manchester, but I'm still working on verifying that.
