Leander "crossed the plains" from Missouri in 1859 -A History of Klamath County, Oregon : its resources and its people, illustrated. Rachel Applegate Good. According to the BLM online database he was granted 160 acre homestead in May 1862. - Ordered a certified copy a couple of months ago. Nice service got it to me fast :) Anyhow back to the narrative. According to the Douglas County Historical Society He bought a portion of land right out side of Carson City, Nv from John and Mary Gardner, In addition to his homestead land grant. On the East side of present day Hwy 395 in Gardnerville, Douglas, Nv He retired from ranching in 1909 and moved to Klamath Falls, Or. with his four sons his wife having passed in 1896. Note: She, according to an article in the Record-Courier Newspaper, was the first internment in the newly created Garden Cemetery. He died at the Summers Ranch in 1930. His family accompanied his remains back to Gardnerville where I assume he was buried next to his wife Caroline In the Garden Cemetery.

Really looking forward to going to Gardnerville in Oct for their Historical tour week. :)
