I am doing research to find where my Grandmother, Laura Petrea Lauritzen was born in Denmark and who were her parents, etc. She was born January 31, 1866 - someplace in Denmark. I believe she immigrated to Ludington, Michigan in June of 1885 according the Danish Police records. She settled in Manistee, Michigan and married my Grandfather, Rasmus Petersen who was also from Denmark. I already have his information.

Thank you for the info. The Rasmus Petersen is not the right one. My Grandfather Rasmus passed away of meningitis in either October or November of 1897. He was born 8 May, 1859 and his parents were Peder Rasmussen and Ellen Cathrine Pedersen. I also have his parents names and dates. It's just my Grandmother Laura that I cannot find. I have been trying for about 8 years with no success.
Again, Thanks
Many questions --- I will try to answer them for you. Most of my research was done by going to Manistee, MI where my Grandparents had lived and going through the archives at the clerks office and also the church in Manistee where they were married. I found their marriage recorded at the Church of the Good Shepherd. It also said her birth place was Trinitatis Parish in Kobenhavn but so far I have found nothing in the Danish Archives to substantiate that, and I have gone through them from 1864 through 1868 and the death records for her sister in 1876. The record at the clerks office gave only the place name of Denmark for her birth and no parents names. The date of her birth was found on a picture of her as a young girl but no other information. My Gsrandparents had 4 children all of whom were born in Manistee, MI. The oldest, Roselene Rasmine Karoline Petersen, born 11 July, 1887. Second was my Father - Severin Petersen, born 22 June, 1889. Third was Ambrosius Bernardt Petersen, born 14 January 1891 and last Caroline Johanne Rasmine Petersen, born 30 April, 1893. Of course the are all deceased now.
I did find her emmigration record that read as followss: Laura Lauridsen (different spelling), age 19, Occupation: Jomfru (maiden). Contract # 183400, registration date July 16, 1885. Last parish, Kobenhavn - last residence, Kobenhavn. Dentination: Manistee, Michigan. Indirekte (not one ship) ID code: 18486L1604.
Also on the same page right above her name was a Hans P. Lauridsen, age 28. the regisstration number and ID numbers were only one number off. I did extensive search and found there was no relation of the two. Maybe just a coincidence?? But he was also going to Manistee.
I do not have access to Ancestry.com so have not been able to search there.
I am not really computer literate so if I don't put something on that is asked for - please forgive me. I need a Grandchild here to help me. lol
Yes, I did know about her second marriage to Jens Paulsen. His Full name was James Nathaniel Paulsen, born in Norhalne Denmark on June 25, 1850, He died November 9, 1928 but they were divorced long before that. They had 2 sons, Claence Paulsen, born July 4, 1899 and Alvin Paulsen, born May 17, 1901. Laura and Jens divorced August 21, 1903 because of cruelty on his part. Laura took all of the children and moved to Grand Rapids, MI somewhere between 1903 and 1906. In 1925 she married again to a Daniel D. Sutton but again that marriage ended in divorce after she found out that he was already married to someone else. Laura died on August 26, 1931. According to the medical reports she died of a fractured femur after being hit by a bus. She is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
The names you have for the children are sort of Americanized from thier Danish names, except for Severin and Ambrosius. Severin, who was my Father was called Laurence and Ambrosious was called John. Eventually the girls also changed thier names from Roseline to Ruth and Caroline to Mildred.
I believe the writing on the back of the picture was that of my Aunt Mildred. I had never met Laura since she died before I was born.
Thank you so much for trying to help me.
