My brick wall is my ggg grandfather John Marr or rather those who came before him. John was born 1773 in Culpeper County, Virginia and died in Kentucky in 1857. But I have not found any information on his parents, grandparents, etc. Although there were plenty MARRs in Virginia back then, none seem to be right for John's father. Phillip

Do you have access to the tax rolls of Culpeper County for that time period? That might help in narrowing down the possibilities of who his parents were.
I don't have access to the tax rolls. Culpeper was a central location in Virginia and during the Revolution, War of 1812 and the War Between the States, so very much was trashed, destroyed, burned to ashes that not much was left. I have a feeling that if there was anything to find, it would have been found by now and that the search for John is a hopeless cause. But, one keeps on trying. Thank you. Phillip.
Thanks for the links. I haven't had a chance to go through them yet. The Wheatley connection is this:
Elizabeth Wheatley was born 1773 and married John Marr Feb. 11, 1799. She died about 1850 in Barren County, Kentucky. She and John moved to Kentucky about 1804.Their last child in Virginia was born in 1804; their first child in Kentucky was born in 1806. I do have have a copy of John's will. The information you give below is essentially correct. I will get to work looking at the links you provided. To make this a bit more complicated, I have been looking for John's burial site for some time. I just found out last week that the area where his land was located was turned into a man-made lake and John and other family members (having been buried on the farm) are most like resting at the bottom of the lake as there is no record of their having been moved. Thanks again, Phillip.
