Hi,
I have been trying to find my great grandfather John Jones for over 20 years. He left Cork City, Ireland in 1911 for the USA leaving his wife Ellen & 4 sons (my grandfather was 18 months old) behind. He never returned. It was my grandad Michael who started me on this search the year he was 80 (1989), he wanted to know what happened to his father, also his mother had never told them anything about their Jones relations, so my search began.... I had no names or dates, no internet, but I heard that The Church of Latter Day Saints had records I could access. It took 4 years to find John & Ellens marriage cert, but then I knew his fathers name, Thomas. By now I had internet, searched the Ellis Island records but could not find him. Sadly my grandad died in 1996. Since then I have found his british army records 1891-1902, his birth cert 1873 & in 2005 found his entry record in to the USA in Boston. He gave his sister Annie White's address in Worcester MA. Through US census records I have found a brother Patrick Jones & his family in PA. I can find no mention of him after his arrival but my grandad was told years later by an old neighbour that he had met him in New York with a lady friend. His brother Patrick had a son also John born 4 July 1890 in CT who died Nov 1963 in Virginia. This John stayed with Annie White in the 1930's & could possibly have met his uncle, maybe he has family that could put this finally to bed.
My grandadfathers 100th birthday would have been on 22nd of September this year, I would love if I could say that I did what he asked of me.
Attached a photo that was found recently hidden under old photos belonging to my great grand mother, might it have come frm the USA

Hi GeneJ
Thank you for responding, Yes that is the correct Annie White. She died in 1947 and the cemetary where she is buried has 7 John Jones listed. I got great help on the Worcester genealogy website a few years ago in relation to her and got all her decendants. I rang and spoke to her great grandson's wife but he was not interested in speaking to me, my mother then wrote to him and an uncle who was still living explaining what we where looking for but we got no reply, which is why I am now chasing down Patrick Jones family. I have all the information on ancestry.com my user name is moncon1461.
John Jones arrived Boston on 13 April 1911 on the SS IVERNIA leaving Queenstown Cork, Final Destination Worcester MA home of sister Annie White. Next of kin Mrs Ellen Jones 2 Regans Lane Cork. Labourer. age given as 31.
He was born on the 29 of Sept 1873 to Thomas Jones & Catherine (Kate) Connors. Only last week I found his parents marriage cert, they were married in Killeagh Parish Co Cork on the 11 of Nov 1857. so far I have birth certs for John 1873, Michael 1871 & Mary 1867. Am going parish to parish looking for the others.
Patrick Jones is in the 1900, 1910 & 1920 census but I could not find him or his wife after that. His birth is given as 1864 his wife Kathleen born Ireland 1859, 2 sons Timothy born PA Aug 1888 married Mary C Racine & John Born CT 4 July 1890. I found Johns draft card 1917/18 which gave the day of the month he was born & helped me find his death notice Nov 1963 Virginia. John 1890 does not show up in the 1920 census so i assume he was still in the army and in the 1930 census he is living with his Aunt Annie White in Worcester MA.
My great grand mother died when I was 4 aged 90,I remember her very well. she never forgave John and never spoke about him but she favoured her eldest son Matthew who it was said was the living image of his father.
I will attach a photo of Matthew Jones 1905-1941
