James McElwee b. about 1772 in Louisiana (or so the census says)

I cannot find where he came from. He was married to a Mary Smylie (b. New York). The last I find of him is his death in MS and his will lists his 7 children. this is my brick wall and I wish someone could help me break thru!!!!  He is my 4th g grandfather.

I just found this site and I have my hopes up :)
