My great great grandfather, Abraham Marcia, sprang full blown from the head of Zeus in the 1850 Ralls County, Missouri census as a laborer in the household of Thomas H. and Nancy Graham. Later that year, he married Nancy Hawkins, the daughter of John Franklin Hawkins, who was a prosperous landowner in the area. Other than Abraham's birth date (12 October 1828), I have been unable to locate any other information about his antecedents. I have information that his name probably was Abraham Mercier, but that does not help me in finding out anything else about him.

I live in Texas, so I am limited to online resources and the kindness of others at the moment.

Thanks.

Thank you for your reply. I referred to Zeus as a classical reference (Athena springing full grown from the head of Zeus). I am aware of the Abraham Mercier and Susanne Moiter information but do not have any documentation to prove the relationship. I have information that about a Jean Baptiste Mercier in Canada who possibly was my Abraham's grandfather, but again, I have no documentation to prove or disprove the relationship. Nor can I locate any information on Abraham Mercier and Susanne Motier other than the 1819 marriage and the 1830 Census.

There are some World Family Tree entries which show Jean Baptiste Mercier and wife Marie Josephine Tessier who had a son, Abraham Mercier who married Susanne Motier who had the following children: Marie, Mathilde, Hubert, Abraham and Reine. The 1830 Census appears to fit this information. But, again, I can find no source documentation to prove the connection and therefore am hesitant of including it in my tree.
Thank you for this information. It looks like a good lead to follow up. I will certain put contacting the St. Louis Genealogical Society on my list of things to do this next week.

I got Abraham's date of birth from his tombstone and while that should be a correct date, I am experienced enough to know that it is not necessarily so.
