24 Ferrying Squadron WWII AAF

A dear friend asked me to help find his biological grandfather (his children were given up for adoption in 1935)
After finding out Calvin Lewis Smith had died in 1960 and finding cousins that knew him, I have two photos and a photo of his grave in Indiana. I have tried to look for info on his military group and can find very little. Any help would be great.
