My dad and brother came from Richard E & Elizabeth Infinger Mellard's son Walker Henry and Margaret Estelle Sanders. I have 4 of their children's death certificates.

My father said something about, I think it was, one of Richard E & Elizabeth Infinger Mellard's children could not be their child. He was suppose to explain it to me, but, has not yet. We are going up there in a couple of weeks, I will ask him about that. I am wondering if it could be Isaac Wesley Mellard & Elizabeth Murray (John Nathan Sr.'s) parents.

My dad came like this:

Richard E. & Elizabeth Infinger Mellard
Walker Henry & Maggie Estelle Sanders Mellard
Edmund Simmons Mellard & Elizabeth Henrietta Walters Mellard
William Herman & Sandra Hooper Mellard (my parents)
Carolyn Mellard & Bobby Marino
Faye Delores Mellard & (1) Larry Glover (2) Marvin Williams

This is getting interesting. I'll let you know when I find out.

The John Nathan Mellard who gave the DNA sample was JNM Jr, born in 1918. His parents were John Nathan Mellard (1885-1966)and Shirley Donna Simmons. JNM's parents were Isaac Wesley Mellard (1860-1941) and Elizabeth M Murray, if I have it right. And Wesley's parents were Richard E Mellard (1837-1910) and Elizabeth A Infinger. I think what I need is someone descended in the male line from further up the Mellard chain (like one of Richard E's descendants that is not descended from Wesley but from one of his brothers). If I can get someone like that to take a DNA test, it would help prove whether I am really a Mellard, or if JNM Jr is really a Burgess.

I have John Nathan as being married the Shirley Donna Simmons. My records say that John Nathan is a son of Isaac Wesley and Elizabeth Murray Mellard. I can send you what I have on him, if you want me to.

Yeh, I am having trouble like that on my mother's side. We found out by DNA that we were not Hooper's, but we were in fact Burkes. Now where do we go? Back in the 1700's they did not have paperwork for adoptions, they just took them in.

I know who John Nathan is. He is my 1st cousin twice removed. I have pictures of the gravestones of him & his wife and his military record, but, other than that, I know nothing about them. I think families hid things back them which makes our job harder. If I come across anything, I'll let u know.

According to yDNA, I am a close cousin of John Nathan Mellard. My great-grandfather was John Burgess, and the only thing I know about him aside from his name is the fact that he married my great-grandmother on Jan 23, 1868 in Hart County, GA. He wasn't around with my ggm and my grandfather in the 1870 census, and I don't know what happened to him. The Mellard connection is a mystery. The potential answers to this mystery range from an adoption that I haven't found documentation for yet, to an extra-marital incident, or to a confusing name change.
