This is a gorgeous example of fashion in 1867. 17 year old Alice Whitcomb sat for a photographer in New York in March of that year.
Note her hair parted in the middle, swept severely back and gathered in sausage curls at the back of her head. By this time of the 1860s decade, women's ears showed, they were no longer covered as in the earlier part of the decade.

Alice's dress has the dropped shoulders and bodice with a yoke-like appearance. Sleeves are full but taper in nearer to the wrist.
