I have very few complaints about Legacy at all, but here's an incident where I'm wondering what I may have done wrong, and subsequently, what I can do to help the program do its job:

Scenario.

Della Hittle is the daughter of Isaac Hittle and Lucy Brown. She shows up nicely in their family view page. I click on her and her page comes up, but I have not yet attempted to add her spouse.

So, I click on the empty box where here husband's name should be, and I get the typical "add a new husband" or "choose a husband from existing people" response box. So far, so good.

When I click on "add a new husband" I get the following error message:
>>quote
Error getting next deleted MRIN.
Error 3021: No current record.
Would you like to TRY IT AGAIN?
>>unquote

If I click on "yes" the error message simply re-presents itself. If I click on "no" I'm sent on to add the husband's information.

This works this way for either husbands or wives, and makes no difference which method I attempt to add the spouse with.

In the long run, I've simply been clicking "no" and moving on.

Is there something I can do to avoid the interruption and fix whatever may have caused it to begin with?

Thanks!

Joe, I am not sure, but I think you need to do the "File Maintenance". In to top right corner click on "File". In the drop down menu mouse over "File Maintenance". I would do "Check/Repair" and "Master lists clean up...". It would be nice if Legacy would give you some clue as to what you need to do to clear the problem when you get an error message, right?
The solutions by error number are on our website at http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Help.asp#SolutionsByNumber. For this 3021, just click on its link and follow the instructions. Usually, like Phillip reported, the File Maintenance will take care of it.
Hi Geoff!

This may be one that whoever created the "cures" file might want to take another look at. When accessing the 3021 error-fix page, it's a terribly generic response that does not even reference the 3021 error. After accessing the page, if you go back to the error-list-fix roster that you pointed me toward, several error messages are then shown as visited, which makes me think that maybe several of the error-fixes are pointed to the same cure.

It most likely was a service-pack fix, as I began on Legacy with Windows 98, and have been carrying the "problem" for almost 4 years now, even on the Vista machine I now use. I wasn't sure that what the cure-page was suggesting even pertained to my situation without the error message being referenced there.

Anyway, I do now have the problem resolved, the error messages have went away, and I continue VERY happy with the way Legacy handles my local computer genealogy database!

May all "problems" be resolved so quickly!

Thanks!

Joe
Thanks Phillip,

That did work

For the most part, I find Legacy pretty intuitive and far more logically laid out than other gen programs I've used. Presently I'm in the process of taking the information from Legacy over to phpgedview and TNG. I haven't decided yet which of those 2 I'm going to keep on my website, but part of the process of transferring the information is cleaning up my Legacy database. I have no plans to directly export/import the ged from Legacy to either pgv or tng, but I'm finding lots of reasons to proof-read what I have in Legacy.

So, the Legacy file error needed to be cleaned up, and very likely was something I needed to do years ago.

Thanks again for the response!

Joe
