I have been interested in reconnecting with my Ontario KEFFER relatives for some time. Your Jacob and Michael KEFFER are relatives of my KEFFER ancestors (my grandmother was Lillian KEFFER). My database is on-line at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=wittkeffer. Just checking in to say hello, and interested in seeing how the KEFFER family is faring these days.

Hey again Ruth - Ontario Keffer-Fest is our 'cool' name (Sorry, our parents started calling it that so we've had to keep up their geeky traditions!) for our family reunion. In about a week we all get together at my Uncle's place and eat ourselves sick and play with waterguns until someone starts a never ending feud.
This year we're expecting a few of the older generations out to discuss genealogy. We always come home with new fun stories that branch into our research! We're also going to discuss Annie Stone (Adopted by the Carr family) and figure out hope much we're going to push into the British Home Project for information about her. Wow that's a complicated genealogical mess!

I have too much to talk about at once :) Sorry if this is confusing anyone!
I have a copy of the stained glass window Branda from a website, we haven't been there ourselves but we're going to go sooner or later on our way to Notre Dame/Cote Des Neiges in Quebec.

There's the link. I love, LOVE how it depicts his shoes over his shoulders. Really... It couldn't be more perfect. There's a window at Zion Lutheran in Maple too, we have an Uncle who's going to get us permission to go muck around in there. I'm personally hoping for some records we don't have, but I always try not to get my hopes up! Oh and Maple is making a road called 'Jacob Keffer' Drive or Street... It's not made yet, there's only signs that they're selling houses in the area! We'll get street sign photos when they're up.

I got a photo of the memorial stone the other day, the one from the 1940s... It's so cool. I started posting some stuff up, I'll go look at my photo thingy on here and see if I can post a copy. There's the historical plaque too... Way too much stuff at once, really. Okay! I'm going to stop talking now...

If there are any descendants of G. Elmore Reaman that object to posting tidbits from this out-of-print book he has so excellently done, please let me know. When I bought mine last summer there were still some used ones for sale.

Source: "History of Vaughan Twp" 1971, pg 202:
Keffer Family
"In 1806 two brothers, Jacob and Michael Keffer, brought their mother and families from Pennsylvania to Vaughan Twp. Jacob settled on Lot 12, Concession 3, and Michael on Lots 9 and 10, Concession 3. We know the brothers had visited York several times during the 1790s but did not come to settle until after their father, Jacob's death.

Jacob's oath of allegiance, taken at York on July 18, 1799, before Wm. Jarvis, J.P., was among some interesting papers discovered recently. This was before official records were kept, which began in 1800.

Part of a diary kept by Jacob tells of a trip, leaving York on August 20 and arriving in Pennsylvania on September 6, 1799. On August 22 he stayed overnight with Jacob Kulb, in Vineland; on August 25, he cross the Niagara River; and on September 3, he was nine miles from the Allegheny Mountains.

Jacob and Margaret had a family of five sons and seven daughters. Michael and Maria had four boys and one girl.

At the time the Lutheran Church Centennial in 1906, there were 125 Keffers living in this one 1,000 acre block.

In 1946 a memorial stone was unveiled in the Lutheran Cemetery under the chairmanship of Wilbur Keffer, recording the names of the two original families.

Lot 12, Concession 3 continued to be farmed by Jacob's desendants until Wilfred Keffer sold the east half in 1959. The west half was sold in 1962 to Lawrence Keffer. Nine generations of the Keffer family have lived in Vaughan."

Does anyone have photos of the stained glass with the 3 men on it from the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church? There is a photo of the church in the Vaughan Twp Book but not of the stained glass in the church. Thanks

Jenn, what is this "Ontario Keffer-Fest"? I think that I have missed something, somewhere ...

We spent the day in Maple yesterday, we photographed Zion Lutheran Church (Again, our old photos were 10 years old and wow has digital improved since then!) and did a few smaller cemeteries right before a tornado went through! Great new photos and tree adds as soon as we can get them up on our site and findagrave.com.
Ontario Keffer-Fest is only a week away, we'll be sure to post any new family information we manage to dig up!
