I had a different experience. I loved history, and minored in College. I love the way genealogy leads us to personal but also societal history.

My wife had Loyalists in her ancestry - they went to new Brunswick just after the Revolution, and then filtered into Nova Scotia and maine. I met one of the FRAZEEs out in Nova Scotia several years ago.

From the reading I have done and I am surely not an expert but: it appears in being called Loyalists they wanted to remain loyal to the King of Britain. Do some reading on the topic.. there is another book that has the word Oak I think it in.. I will write my friend and ask her the name of it again and let you know but it is about the history of the loyalist.

My mom (her mom was a KEFFER) has asked me why Jacob and Michael went to Canada, and I don't know the answer. Was there a falling out with other KEFFERs? Did they not like post-Revolutionary Pennsylvania? Does anyone know?

Matt/Jenn/whomever: Are there other books out there about the Keffer/Puterbaugh family? As you know I have the Vaughn Twp book but is there anything else that would be of interest? Thanks Brenda (ks-gt.blogspot.com)

Good morning. Good to hear from you. My brother used to communicate with Marion KEFFER, who was a descendant of Michael. That's where we got most of our info. But communication today is a lot easier than the letters they exchanged 30 years ago.

Hello Matthew!
I'm feeling pretty good tonight, as an Ontario Keffer... :) We're all descendants of Goldie Diceman and Gilbert Keffer. Our website is at http://www.snowstones.com but I have to admit, our Keffer tree is a mess right now, and I’m so far behind in adding things it’s silly. Once the snow flies I’ll be more likely to get some work done, but the weather’s been fare enough that I’m not willing to be tied to my desk. We’re all from Jacob’s side, but we have a fair amount of information on Michael’s lines as well due to some awesome cousins. It’s an amazingly rich heritage and we love to meet new family! So glad you found us! We'll look forward to chatting more in the future...

By the way, I am also actively researching French Canadian and Acadian genealogy for my wife's Louisiana ancestry. If any of you have connections to 17th or 18th century French Canadian families, you could be related to my wife.
