I have a copy of the Italian birth certificate of my maternal great-grandmother's second husband, Pasquale Nigro, born FEB 7, 1857 in Viggiano, Basilicata Province. From what I can translate (I don't know Italian), his father's name was Francesco Nigro and his mother was Catarina di'Fuccio. Pasquale immigrated to the USA around 1876 (copy of his passport), settled in Sonora, Tuolumne County, California and was naturalized in 1882. One of the two citizen/sponsors on the Naturalization Certificate is Francesco Pinnella (my great-grandfather). Other than being close friends (1st & 2nd husbands to my great-grandmother), musicians, roommates and Italian-born, I'm wondering if they were from the same region or village in Italy. Anyone have any connections to these family names, Viggiano or the area, or comments on my post?
Thank you, Michael. This is the Italian "White Pages" listing for these names in Viggiano?

Hi,

Is this Potenza the one where Forenza is?

See, we have this mystery.

Fiancé's family are supposed to be from Calabria.

His father's birth certificate says he was born in Forenza, Potenza.

I've been searching in the south for months, but I'm now wondering if this is the reason I can't find anything going back?
