For Those Getting Accredited...
I thought it would be good for those of us who are actively working on our Accreditation to post our chosen research locality and their progress.
Right now, I'm working on my Accreditation in Sweden. I hope to use a branch of the same family for Certification and then get Accredited in England. (I've already chosen my English family---isn't that scary?)
I've already mapped out into my third generation but I'm still gathering gathering gathering. At the same time, I'm tracing descendants of the family lines just because I'm curious. My great great grandfather and his parents emigrated in the 1870's but we never had any knowledge of what became of his brothers and sisters. While its not part of my Accreditation report, I'm tracking his siblings to through marriages and deaths just for completeness.
Where are you working on? What is your progress?

I'm working in Mid-Atlantic States. I did most of my research in 1993-1996 and have taken a break, moving my thoughts to Switzerland. I just have to get everything organized, write a report, make binders, etc.... Should be ready by mid-2090.

I am doing Mid-Atlantic too - Been seriously working on it now off and on for 3 years. I wish I could lock myself in a closet and get it done. It is hard having it hang over my head. I agree maybe by 2090..:-)

Great idea!
I'm working on an accreditation for England.I have the 4 generations , but i'm searching for all the evidence linking the 3rd to 4th generation.And working on our homework from yesterday's class.
After England i will go onto Wales for another branch of my family.

I'm working on getting accredited in England.
I finished my BGS degree (emphasis in Family History ) at BYU in 2006, and hoped to accredit right away, while everything was still fresh in my mind. As part of my degree I took a Professional Credentials course which was a tremendous help in preparing for / completing the application process. The course included a "practice test," reports, and an oral exam, so I felt ready to apply. I had everything ready to turn in to ICAPGen, including the $25 check for the application fee!
However, family concerns made my credentials take a back seat for a few years.
Now I'm back at it, in large part due to these mentoring classes. I feel compelled to finally get my application turned in quickly. One of the things I learned during my practice oral exam was that I really needed to push my research back one more generation. Even though I technically qualified with what I had, using an earlier generation would "show off" my research skills better. So I'm finishing that research, updating the reports & charts I prepared in 2006 (my Legacy software has upgraded quite a bit in the last few years), and figuring out ICAPGen's new application process / forms.
My goal is to have my application done and ready to turn in by April's fast-track class, but for sure by the last fast-track class session (in May?).
I've enjoyed seeing other people's responses to this discussion -- good luck to everyone! -

Augh! My well-laid plans that were right on track just got derailed again! :)
Instead of using the next several days to finalize my application, now I'll be spending the rest of April dealing with significant changes at my Family History Center, where I'm the director. Hopefully things will settle down enough that I can meet my self-imposed deadline of "May at the latest," but who knows... It's hard to not get frustrated sometimes...
I guess that's why a positive attitude and determination are so important, right? :) -

I'm working in Italy area. I am still writing my report (I already finish the 1st and 2nd generation, and doing the 3rd and 4th). I'm still researching some documents for the generation 4, preparing the Binder, studying from books about italian records, learning about USA census, passport and immigration records, studying some latin too and still struggling with my english (because is not my primary language)... so... I am not ready yet of course, but I continue working with a lot of spirit!!! :-)

I attended the AG Mentoring Seminar on April 27th in Salt Lake - It was great. I highly recommend anyone who was not able to attend to watch the videos from the mentoring classes.

I mailed in my application today! Now it's time to buckle down and reivew for the written test, especially making sure my research binder is up-to-date...

I'm working on Midwestern states and would love to get together with anyone in the Salt Lake City/Ogden area who is also working on Midwestern states.
I am working on my notebook at the moment. Everything is taking longer than I planned, but enjoying the journey.

I'm working in the Gulf South Region of the United States. I have been doing family history off and on since 1993 in this area and have set a goal to be ready to apply and test, etc in 2015. I'm currently taking the mentoring classes and working on getting 1000 hours of research in the states of interest first. I decided I need to break it down to manageable steps for myself. I work full time during the school year as an educator so my plan has been to intensify my work during the summer months. So far it has been working! And in two summers the plan is to travel and do onsite research!

Thought I'd take a turn. I'm probably the anomaly of the group. I know where I'm going, but it will take a long time to get there. I just started doing genealogical research again two years ago after a 15 year hiatus (ignoring little pieces here and there). And this was formerly my "hobby", not my profession (hence the hiatus as the profession got in the way).
So, I've been on a learning and updating path for two years. This year I have been attending the mentoring group in order to know ahead of time what will be required of me when it comes time to attempt to get accredited. I have further conferences and classes planned along with my research to help me eventually get there.
Lofty goals, but I'm hoping to accredit first in England, and then with a lot of language skills developed over time, Slovakia. We'll just see how that goes. Check on me in say five years?
