GREENHEAD - One-Name Study

As a member of the Guild of One Name Studies I am researching the GREENHEAD family and its variants worldwide. I would be very pleased to hear from anyone who is either related to, or interested in, the family name.

I became interested in collecting data on my branch of the family tree about 12 years ago and whilst carrying out research at Redhill, Surrey Library and browsing in the Cricket section, I stumbled across details of a cricket match that took place between a team of GREENHEADs and the South Nutfield Cricket Club.

The match was part of the golden wedding celebrations of Joseph and Emma GREENHEAD in 1919 and included a reception at the club after the match attended by some 40 members of the family aged between 11 and 71. It was then that I decided to concentrate solely on the GREENHEAD family name and joined the Guild of One Name Studies to research the surname worldwide in 2004.

Over the past 5 years I have amassed data on about 3000 persons who were either born with the GREENHEAD surname or married into it and although there are still some broken branches, particularly relating to members of the GREENHEAD family who have emigrated, the tree is fairly well populated as far back as the mid nineteenth century.

My research is however far from over and I would very much like to hear from anyone with an interest in the GREENHEAD family, particularly living within the USA, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand & Australia that might be able to give me information that would connect their branch to the tree.

I would also be very pleased to provide information from my database to anyone who is seeking information on their particularly branch of the GREENHEAD family tree.

Hi Ann,
Many thanks for your correction, my source was St Nicholas Plumstead. Why I typed Norwich, Norfolk I do not know. Turning now to Elizabeth Garland I provide the following information:

Elizabeth GARLAND was born Chaldon, Surrey in 1805, was baptised on 2 Jun 1805, and married John GREENHEAD on 30 September 1827 at St Peters, Walworth, Surrey after Banns. She died in Bromley, Kent and was buried at St Peter & St Paul's Church, Bromley, Kent on 20 April 1851. She is recorded living with John in both the 1841 and 1851 censuses in Bromley. An Ann, born 1837, was part of the family in both censuses and at this stage I am fairly confident it is Kezia Ann.

You then married James Arthur Gilmour on 11 Aug 1967, Victoria, Australia and gave birth to 3 children.
