Surname Etymology

Doyle is an Irish name and an Anglicanized form of Gaelic Ó Dubhghaill which means ‘descendant of Dubhghall’, a personal name composed of the elements dubh ‘black’ + gall ‘stranger’. This was used as a byname for Scandinavians, in particular to distinguish the darker-haired Danes from fair-haired Norwegians. Source

Hi. Patrick Doyle was my 2nd great-grandfather. He was born about 1835 in Bagenalstown, County Carlow, Ireland. He emigrated to the United States sometime before 1860. The first place I find him is in Rochester, New York, where he resided until his death in 1894. His parents were Michael and Mary Doyle, presumedly also from Bagenalstown. He married Anna Breen of County Wicklow, Ireland, date and place unknown. He was a stonemason. I have no information about siblings. Does this information help anyone? Any ties at all, even tenuous?
