No postings since 2011?! Wow! We're not winning any popularity contests. :-)

My Cogan line begins somewhere in Ireland (where exactly is one of my research goals) with Nicholas Cogan and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). They had a son, Thomas F, who is my great great grandfather. So far I have not identified any siblings, but I'm working on it.

Thomas immigrated to the US in 1860 (according to US Census Records) and lived in Bloomfield NJ. He was a laborer who could not read or write. He filed his declaration of intention (for citizenship) in 1862 and becomes naturalized in 1865.

He married Mary Kane in 1862. They had six children (five that live to adulthood): Elizabeth, Edward, Thomas, Mary, and John. John is my great grandfather.

John A married Ida Regina Delaney in 1906 and they have two children, John Kenneth and Thomas Andrew. John Kenneth is my grandfather. Ida dies at the age of 30 and John later married again to Katherine Murphy in 1919. Together they had three children: Walter Murphy, William Murphy, and Mary K. Both of John's families lived in Bloomfield, NJ.

John Kenneth married Florence Manning in 1932. They had one child: Kenneth Leonard. They lived in Neptune, NJ.

Kenneth Leonard married Mary Ann Stevens in 1959. They had two children, me and my brother. After a divorce, Kenneth later married Karen Hergesell in 1970 . They had two daughters.

Two reasons for sharing this information:

1. To connect with anyone who may be related.

2. To solicit ideas for finding the location in Ireland where my great great grandfather Thomas Cogan is from. But before you do so, please ask me for the research I've done so far. I may have already covered the suggestion that you have in mind.
