Hello all,

I am trying to find out information regarding my Great Aunt - Deaconess Winifred Hanby Stapleton
Born Islington, London, England 22 Nov, 1882
Died Victoria BC, Canada 23 Oct 1967
She spent around 50 years as a Deaconess to the Sioux indians in Manitoba.

In particular I am looking for a copy of her obituary/death notice from the Victoria newspaper.
If any one has other info I wouldappreciate hearing about it

Thank you

Have you tried Manitoba newspapers? There seem to be a few articles about here at least indexed on www.manitobia.ca (free), for instance, "The Winnipeg Evening Tribune" -- June 15, 1940 p. 15. That mentions she has been deaconess in charge at Anglican Church on the Sioux Reserve near Griswold for 10 years. Other Manitoba newspapers can be read at www.NewspaperArchive.com (pay site) or possibly on Google News Archive. Likely there was an obituary in a Manitoba paper if she worked there a long time.

Then there may be information in the Anglican Church archives or in local collections.

Do you have her BC death registration and any cemetery information or are you just looking for a BC obituary? I can do that next week, but you could also check for a BC volunteer at www.raogk.com. There is a British Columbia list here at GenealogyWise too.
Thanks for the tips. I'll try tehm and see what happens.
As to her deathe there is a death notice in Harrogate in England as this is where her sisters were.
