John Brewer of Oconee County SC

I'm trying to find out more about my Brewer family, which I can trace back to John Brewer who was born in 1789 and died April 26, 1860. He lived in Oconee County, SC and was married to Rebbeca Brown. Based on a lot of research by Brewers of this line, we believe he had a brother named Joseph William Brewer, close in age, who lived in the same area but eventually moved to George. A direct descendant of Joseph and one of John are close matches in yDNA testing.

Some researchers believe their parents were William Brewer Jr. and Susannah Cook who came from England and lived for awhile in Martin County, NC before moving to South Carolina - but I have not been able to conclusively prove this.
