Genealogy Wise

The Genealogy & Family History Social Network

For those who are into researching and want more then just a genealogy but a family history (there is a difference) then researching the history of your family's house is one way to add to your knowledge of the family. You may run across terms or references to household articles in wills or probate material. Was the family homestead passed down through the generations or what? What did the house or property look like? Was someone famous born in the house you now live?

There are many question to ask and find answers to. I had my aunts give a description of where they lived and my uncle who had architectural training drew up the floor plan of the house. By learning more about a house history you may find out more about the house in the background of that old photo of your family. Determine the date, architectural style, etc.

Attached is actually a small list (about 4 pages) of books, pamphlets & websites for starting researching your or your ancestors home. Good luck.
