Looking for Parents/Grandparents of Caleb Moncrief
I am assisting a friend in applying to the Daughters of the American Revolution. Everything is complete EXCEPT for proof that Caleb Moncrief (1783-1856) is the son of Martha Ferebee (1748-1805) and William Alexander Moncrief (1744-1795). Caleb was reportedly born in North Carolina on 1 Oct 1783 and died 4 Oct 1856 in Alabama. His grandparents, William Ferebee (1722-1783) and Elizabeth Cooper (1728-1794), were patriots in the American Revolution. A birth, death, cemetery, will, deed or other such record may provide the name of Caleb's mother. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The best I have is Currituck County, although some have said Halifax County. His mother was from Currituck and his parents both reportedly died in Halifax.

I don't know your answer, but I do know that Sir Iain Moncrieff wrote a book titled, "The Highland Clans," and it had sketches of a lot of different clans of Scotland. He knew a lot about genealogy, and mentioned which Indian chiefs were partly of Scottish descent. You could find his book by a google search, and if he's still alive he might help you find the answer.
