Historical information on Ferries along the Ohio/Kentucky area

Rebecca Susan Ballard - b. ca. 1891 in Boone County, Kentucky

Legend tells me that Rebecca's family had a Ferry service that ferried people across the Ohio River from Boone County, Kentucky to Deerborn County, Indiana. I am looking for a history of this Ferry. I am not certain of the exact location however, I am assuming that it was near Boone County since she was born there. Rebecca married Merritt William Maddox of Owen County, Kentucky. Any informationon the Ballard family would be appreciated.
