Catherine, Thank you so much for the help. I do belong to Ancestry but am not too good at ferreting out the information I want. You have headed me in the right direction especially in regarding my Michael Dwyer. A nice St. Patrick's day gift!

PS.Johann's birthday was 22 July 1851,Steinsfurt.He was born to George Jakob Grob/Philippine Walter. He had 4 siblings, all born in Steinsfurt.Katharina Margaretha born 1836,Susanna 1838-1918,Adam 1844-1918,George 23 Sept 1847-1918.It is believed that the 1918 deaths were from Spainish flu.All but johann died here in illinois. He was the only sibling that lived and died in Germany.I believe he and Katharina Weiser are my Greatgrandparents.I also have all the descendants of all Johaann's siblings.Johann, his wives and descendants have been a brick wall to me and my fellow researcher. This a verified spelling of Grob.

Dear Catherine:Thank you so much for the idea of writing to the church in Steinsfurt. Also for the hint on Steinsfurt death records and dates.Susanna is unknown to us other than her marriage an death years. That info will also be useful to verify some death dates,so that a person we think is related to Johann Grob is authentic.bless yu for your help.JanetV.

Dear Catherine:Thank you for all the great hints. They should keep me busy for awhile.Where do I find the address for Steinsfurt city hall?

  • Janet L. Vanderpool

Dear Catherine:We have been busy working on the info that you gave us in early july.We found much in the Steinsfurt civil records. We are now trying to decipher microfilm from Steinsfurt1870's on.My research buddy is having a hard time with reading it,since much of it's handwritten.Any hints would be greatly appreciated. We are looking for a couple's 4 kids still in Germany born before 1880.She came here alone after he died with 6 of their 10 kids. Also, we still need one of my Grandma's sister's married name.Since it was not listed in Steinsfurt civil registries.Could we find it the same way in Zurich, since we have a picture of her taken there?Would it be possible that you would have the name/address of the Evangelical reform Church in Steinsfurt? We really appreciate the one you had for Steinsfurt courthouse.

We have an e-mail for grafenek where my Great-Aunt Mina died.I wrote it a couple of months ago, with no response. Her married name hasn't shown up in the records suggested. However,I read in the Grafeneck's web site that 4500 people were taken from Baden's Reich care institutes.Any ideas on how to trace that info?

  • Janet L. Vanderpool

Catherine:Bless you for your response. The address is the one that I faxed Mina's info to a couple of months ago.I haven't heard anything back yet,so I think that I will e-mail and ask if there was furthur information needed.Anyway,I don't think it would hurt. There are other addresses that I could use,but I started with the one for victim's families.Again, thank you for your interest and your help.

    Catherine,

Yes I have read Venne in America. I have connected with some possible relatives in Germany as well. I have some missing pieces that I am trying to track down and I'm having a bit of trouble. those in Germany have provided me with a family pedigree but I am not connecting the dots. i need to go back a little farther.

    Catherine-

My g-grandmother, Louise (Rouschke)Karkutt died in a home for the elderly in Arlington Heights, IL in January 1930.  Initially I saw this on Family Search.  Now there is nothing there for her--and there is no IL death certificate .  Same thing happened to my grandmother who died in June, 1959.  She was in possibly the same facility and there is no record of her death. either.  I know she was buried in Forest Home Cemetery in Chicago.  What's the problem?

Thank you for checking into this.  I believe Louise Karkutt was buried in St Lucas Cemetery in Chicago.

Thanks, Catherine.  My grandmother, Ida Beckmann died in Arlington Heights, IL in June, 1959.  I have been unable to find this on Family Search or Ancestry.com.  Additionally, my relatives in Albuquerque, N.M. don't appear.  My brother, Karl Svensson and my nephew, Seth Svensson, died there in 1999 and 2007 respectively.  I've seen an obituary for my brother, but nothing on Seth.  Nor have I located the marriage to Mila Millard in 1957 or 1958.  Any clue why New Mexico doesn't appear?

    Again, thanks.  Marguerite
