I have been handed down a genealogy of my Rice ancestors, but have since been told it was not accurate.
I need to verify the parentage of
Rev. Levi Rice .b SC, d. 10 Aug 1841 supposedly in Hawkins Co, TN.
    he md. 4 dec 1841 in Grainger Co, TN to Mary Catherine Mitchell. I have only 6 children listed for them and need this verified;

    1. John (1795 NC-1889 TX) (before Levi md Catherine?) md Nancy C (....)
    2. Mary Ann b. ca 1800 md Edmund Chisslers, d. in childbirth of 3rd child
    3. Alsy b. ca 1802 (nothing further)
    4. James Samuel b. 17 Oct 1804 Union Co TN, d. 1882 Clairborne Co, TN, md
Frances L. Harper, 8 ch listed
    5. Joel b. c 1815 Hawkins Co TN, d. aft 1903 prob Harlan Co, KY ,md. Jemima Setzer, 7 ch listed.

Does anyone have documentaion to the parentage of Levi Rice?
I would be ever so grateful.
    Thanks in advance,

Mary Rice probably born around 1792 in Rhode Island, she died 23 Nov 1821 in Rhode Island. Married William Hammett Standish 25 Dec 1815. She had two known sons with William H Standish: Charles Edward Standish b 1817 and William Albert Standish 1820 - 1906. I can locate no information about Mary Rice other than a recording of her marriage date and death.

Hello - I descend from Nancy Rice married Dawson Wade in early Kentucky. I have found the Wade and Dawson lines, but I am not sure I have found the correct Rice lines. Does anyone else research this family?
  • Rosemary Taylor

I discovered Rice may be the same as Rhys, a Dutch name.

I am looking for any decendents of Rices/Royces who have ancesters of the French Canadian, Mohawks. Possibly could be a descendent of Silas Rice, England, who was captured by the Mohawks and taken to Kanawake, Canada.
  • Stephen Petrie

    Hi genie,
Silas Rice is related to me (2nd cousin 7 times removed) hardly close but related nonetheless! I do not have any descendants for him or his brother Timothy. Perhaps there is some information we can share that would help both of us.
  • Linda

    Hi Stephen,

I'm new to this sign and still trying to figure out how to navigate. I am not sure where to begin. My grandfather was Mohawk of French Canadian and had family in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Rice descendants I'm of this line I'm told are likely related to Silas captured by natives and taken to Canada. Still don't have much more information but believe he is connected to the St. Regis Reservation in St. Lawrence New York State.

To everyone research Rice, Royce, Ryces and similar names:

There's a great website on the history of Rices. See Edmund-Rice.org. It's an organization that's been around for 100 years. Rices have spread out all over the United States (north, south, east, west). Please let me know if you find any information on the Rices who were captured by the Mohawks and taken to Kanawake, Canada (Silas Rice, the lost boys) and married a Native American woman in your research. Thanks

Hi I am researching my family tree and just found this wonderful website! I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I have traced my Rice line back to South Carolina to James Rice (1798-1875) married to Mahulda "Hulda" Cannon (1804-1888) South Carolina. I am at a dead end on James. I have no siblings or parents to James as of right now. Can anyone please help? James is my 4th great gandfather. James and Mahula Rice and family moved to Arkadelphia,Alabama and that is where he died. Mahulda moved to Texas with her daughter and family and died in Texas. I have all the info on their children and etc...

    Thank you for any help!

I am descended from John W. Rice (1793 - 1862) of New Market, VA. He was one of the largest land owners & slave holders in the Shenandoah Valley & lived in Stanley Hall (which still stands) just north of New Market. Would greatly appreciate any information on this Rice family. Thank you.

This is a correction for Laura Rice and Wilks Chalk children. Marie Chalk, Lillie Mae Chalk and Elwillie chalk are not the children of Laura Rice. They are the oldest children of Wilks Chalk. They are the children of Wilks Chalks' first wife Annie Palmer Chalk. Laura Chalk was Wilks Chalk's second wife.

I am looking for information on the Walter Alexus Rice and Miriam Garrison family. I was told he was born in New York then mived to Iowa. Some records have him listed as WA Rice. According to his gravesite date of birth is May 2, 1821 and death July 2, 1902. I am a decendent of his son William H Rice (1857-1930) who married Mary Heine (1861-?), then my gg-grandfather Was William Alan Rice (1891-1959) and he married Marie Graves and they lived in Tenstrike, Minnesota. My grandfather is William A Rice II who married Inez Moon.

If anyone has more information on any of these families I would love to hear from you!

Hello, I am researching the Hezekiah Rice family that apparently started out in VA, spent some time in NC, and ended up in Union County SC. A lot of information in the DAR records are coming to light as incorrect, and I'm trying to find truth (or at least facts...  haha!)  and yes, there were at *least* three Hezekiah Rice's out there, and I'm sure there are more...  Any help is appreciated, and if you are interested in what I have found, please reply.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I am a direct descendent of Deacon Edmund Rice down 11 generations. Generation 5 is Barzillai Rice. He had a son Reuben born Sept. 3, 1776 at Dummerston, VT.  Reuben married Polly Jones 1796 and left her with a son in about 1798. What I would like to know is where he went and is buried. Any hints or help would be appreciated.
