OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got some exciting news! So out of desperation I sent off what I knew about my Great Grandpa Louis Boon and Great Grandma Mary Bauwens to the Dickinson County Michigan Rootsweb email group and GUESS WHAT?! I got an email from a group member that had info on the families INCLUDING where they lived in Belgium! This person lives in Belgium so he can do research in the area that mine lived in. I think our families married into each other or something but he's not directly related.

My Titanic Connection Part Two!

So those of you who read my blog posts on the extremely rare occasion that I post them probably know that my great grandma and grandpa Boone were supposed to have something shipped over on the Titanic but for whatever reason wasn't which prompted a family trip to Belgium. Well recently I was doing some reading on the Titanic and I discovered that there were HOYT's on board the ship! William Fisher Hoyt and Frederick Hoyt and his wife. As far as I can tell William and Frederick are distant…

My Titanic Connection

My grandpa Boone's parents came over from Belgium in the 1890's and I'd known for awhile that the family went back to Belgium in May 1912 and returned in June on the Antwerp. I'd always thought that they went over to see family but I found out from my Uncle that even though they did stick around for awhile to visit with the family, they'd actually gone over to retreive the rest of their belongings that their parents couldn't take with them when they first left Belgium and the family…

Ghostly Tales Of Wisconsin:The Book

Recently I went to my local library and checked out a book called Ghostly Tales Of Wisconsin. I think the book is good but not great. I guess maybe I would've enjoyed it more if I had not already known about all the spooks mentioned in the book and if even HALF of the facts about the spooks were true. I'll give you two examples. 1.) Ed Gein's home was Prairie Du Chein, NOT Plainfeild...although I beleive the towns do border eachother and are not far from my uncle Danny's home in Gays… Continue

Then and Now

So I've been doing some genie searches for my "adoptive" Civil War people Nathaniel Ross and Gotifred Haffenstein of the 28th WI Volunteer infantry Co. H and Co. B respectfully. The 28th WI website has a compiled a list of the costs of gear that the men needed back then. I've added todays prices for the items I could find being made today that are similar to those of yester year. This how I will show the differences: Then/Now.

My Great Grandmother

Lastnight while in a genie chat me and another chatter goto talking about our family and how the women affected them. This made me remember that my mother had told me about her grandmother Phylis Erke who just passed away in September at 101.

When her husband would take the boys out hunting for deer she'd wait for them to leave and then put some feed out on the porch and then watch from inside the living room and when they'd come up for feed she'd shoot them. Great gramps and the… Continue

Genealogist's Dilemma

While looking up my family tree

A horrid sight there I did see

This horse thief stared right down at me

I turned around and tried to flee

Please stop he called I'm Great Gramp Bob

And horses just my side line job

Don't be too quick to be a snob

With the elite I did hob nob

Please do not hide this sad research

I was a pillar of the church

Until I did our name besmirch

And toppled from my lofty… Continue

BEETHOVEN'S NINTH

A tourist in Vienna is going through a graveyard and all of a sudden he hears some music. No one is around, so he starts searching for the source.

He finally locates the origin and finds it is coming from a grave with a headstone that reads: Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770- 1827. Then he realizes that the music is the Ninth Symphony and it is being played backward! Puzzled, he leaves the graveyard and persuades a friend to return with him. By the time they arrive back at… Continue

Genealogy Poems

Found these while surfing the web. I'll posting in multiple entries since I found alot I'd like to share.

"From those women and men

of great spirit, intelligence, and strength

who came before us and said 'yes' to life,

may we embody the best of their qualities.

In gratitude for their lives lived,

let us now continue to build a world

based on love, and on our inherited wisdom

about the oneness of the Creator and of the Creation

in all its… Continue
