For what reason did you start genealogy research?

I want to learn as much as possible about MY Children's bloodlines and Hertiage, I want to find ancedotes about as many of them as possible to make history real to my Grandkids so they will value the efforts of his ancestors and strive to appreciate where they are because of the families that came before.
