Hello, I am researching my Hylton line from SW Virginia. I've recently moved to SW Virginia (from central Ohio) near where my Great Grandfather was born. There are still MANY Hyltons living here so I'm very curious to learn more about my history.

If you have any of the following names in your lines please contact me.

I would really like to find out more about my GG Grandmother. She was unwed at the time of my Great Grandfathers birth. Her first name is possibly Elmara but I've not found record of an Elmara anywhere.

Here's my line as I know it...

G Grandfather - Gray Glenroy Hylton (born 1904 - Salem, VA)
GG Grandmother - ? Hylton (Hylton was her maiden name)
GGG Grandfather - Eli Warren Hylton (born 1946 - VA)
GGGG Grandfather - Elijah Hylton
GGGGG Grandfather - George Hylton
GGGGGG Grandfather - Elijah Hylton
GGGGGGG Grandfather - George Hylton
GGGGGGGG Grandfather - John Hylton (of New Kent Co. VA)

Thanks! Marie Woolum

We have our Hilton line traced back to England. John James Hilton was born in 1830, he married Hannah Fairclough b. 17 July 1828 in Bolton, Lancashire, England. John and Hannah emigrated to America before 1854. At this point we do not know if they married in England or in the US. According to census records, they first lived in KY > IL > OH, settling in the Hocking HIlls area.

My Hilton line is very brief and very old. After Edward and William came here in 1623, I lose them when Edward's daughter married Christopher Palmer, but that brief brush with the Hiltons gave me a lot of family history. They were the progenitors of the family, founders of a town, and from all I can gather, descendants of royalty. There is a lot written of them. Edward is even mentioned by Governor Bradford in his history of Plymouth plantation. Amazing what a generation or two can do :)

I would love to trace them back into England, but I have so much to do with my ancestors over here first, since so many of mine came int he 16th century.

My husband traces his Hilton line to John Helton & Leona Blackwell. I have no dates for them, but their son Joseph was born 15 Apr 1903 in Virginia. He married Nellie Salyer around 1921. They lived in Carter County, Tennessee in 1930. Joseph died 21 Dec 1954. He is buried in West Lawn Cemetery, Canton, Stark County, Ohio. Joseph & Nellie were my hubby's great grandparents.

I am a descendant of Edward Hilton, who, along with his brother William, was one of the first settlers of what became Dover NH. They came as early as 1623, just after the arrival of the pilgrims. I can post more of their story if you would like.
