I have started up a discussion Bob on our mutual ancestors. Philip (brother to your William) was my ancestor.

Welcome to the Rowcliffe Group.

Dear Elizabeth
Forgive me if you've already had a very similar note from me earlier today but this is my first day using GenealogyWise, discovered this morning. I'm sure that we've 'spoken' via GenesReunited in the past, but when I saw your name, and Rowcliffe, it reminded me of a Rowcliffe problem. Now I can find no record of the note I thought I had sent earlier (and didn't keep a copy of!).
I believe that my 4xg grandfather WILLIAM ROWCLIFFE (b1730) was your PHILIP's brother. So you and I share ANDREW (b 1695) and JOAN (née HARVEY). (William's daughter JOAN married my 3xg grandfather JOSEPH MARSHALL in 1784.)
We (me and a cousin based in Wales) believe we have found ANDREW's parents, WILLIAM (b1656) and JANE CRALOKE/CRELLIKE (b1657) who married in June 1685, but can find no definitive link from WILLIAM to ANDREW.
Have you got further back than ANDREW?
Your certainly right, ROWCLIFFE, its ROWTCLIFF and other variants appear all over sunny North Devon.
Look forward to hearing from you, assuming this gets thru' this time.
Kind regards, Bob Marshall

My 3x great grandmother was Elizabeth (Betty) ROWCLIFFE (wife of Robert PINCOMBE) and daughter of Philip ROWCLIFFE and Martha PEARSE ROWCLIFFE. Philip's father Andrew ROWCLIFFE farmed at Merton Devon - East and West Smythacott.
