You are correct on the children of William & Jemima. The children of William & Mary Bowen were at least two children of Mary's by a previous marriage; and then they had Rose Compton, who married a Mayberry & lived in Louisville, KY. William's name has been documented as William Edward Compton; he's the son of Isom Compton & Martha Brickey. Are you related through the Comptons; and do you have anything else on Jemima Lewis-she was Indian; and my picture of Susan Jane sure shows that heritage. William was born in MO; Brickey records always show VA; but he was born about 1823.

I'll get back with you, hopefully, later today; we're getting ready for more snow here. I bet you have a bunch there. I believe some of these children you show for William & Jemima, belonged to William and his second wife, Mary Bowen; but I'll sort it all out. As to William's middle initial, it is definitely "E"-we've had so many records showing two or three different initials; and, as you know, "C" sounds a lot like "E" to a census taker.

Sorry to be so long in responding. It's been one of those winters! SUSAN JANE Compton Gregory was my great-grandmother; she was the daughter of William E. Compton and Jemima Lewis (Indian, tribe not known). Susan Jane married Winfield Scott Gregory, my great-grandfather; their daughter, Emma Ora Mae Gregory married William Devol Dobkins, my grandparents.
