Hi Jim,

I have been to a Highland Games in Scotland, actually - about 18 years ago. It was fantastic! My brother, dad, and I were on a vacation. There was a Gordon tent and we did stop by to talk to a very nice woman there. She was (of course) unable to help us, but still kinda neat. :)

As for the Hancock County research, I have been back to Hancock County, Brooke County, and Beaver County about 10 times to do research. The vital recrods, unfortunately, start in the late 1890s except for a few years in the 1850s so it's unhelpful for the most part.  The land records do go back earlier, but the Gordons were not apparently land owners until my GGG-grandfather. I have checked out a few churches and the cemeteries in the area as well, without successfully finding my ancestors prior to John F. "Jack" Gordon. As far as I can tell, John was not in the Civil War, although the draft registration does mention he was in military service in Vicksburg, MS previously. For about 10 years I was a member of the Beaver County Genealogical Society and the Tri-State Genealogical Society, but during these hard economic times that "fat" got cut. I'm going to rejoin as soon as practicable. I have dabbled with RAOGK and Google Books, but probably need to put a little more time into it. :)

Respectfully,

Joel

Hi James, I am a member of the Gordon DNA Project (Kit #13047) - been a member for many years. I am not a member of the House of Gordon USA, although I've been to the site before. I've not been able to follow my Gordon back very far, unfortunately. I've been able to get back to my GGG-grandfather, John F. "Jack" Gordon in the arm of West Virginia (Hancock County). I THINK (but have no proof) that his father was the Peter Gordon living in the same area. He moved to Beaver County, PA between 1850 and 1860 and lived in Beaver County, PA until he passed away in 1903.
