Hi Doug. My husband is a Tallman by adoption, from upstate NY, and related the same way with the Moschell (his mother). Do you have connections in this area?

No real story, just practising! We were on holiday in Devon and visited an abbey. The empty casket looked inviting so in I jumped. For a bit of fun I use this photo as my profile pic for genealogy groups.
I could say I'm researching from 'the other side'!

Thanks for the invite Doug. Yes - I believe I will join your group. :My father's side of the family have a bunch of Tallman's that migrated in the Iowa area. I noticed your "Tallman" last name early however had not contacted you yet.

Thanks!!

I have the book "Descendants of Mathys Coenratsen Hooghteeling" which takes the line down to Matthys who I believe is the father of Christopher based on the age of his brother, Nicholas. Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 brothers who moved to Yates County died in 1849 leaving just their widows to appear by name in the 1850 census. Of course, by then Christopher and Nicholas were on their own and Christopher was in Michigan. There are a couple of people who have been trying to sort out the Yates County families, but haven't succeeded as far as I know. I think I need someone to take a look at the probate and land records to see if there is some mention of kinship. I have looked at a number of films in Salt Lake City, but found only census and tax records and cemetery records that seemed incomplete.

Ours moved into Yates County New York about 1808 and then on to Cass County, Michigan about 1843. I went to the big reunion in New York of Houghtalings and our branch was not as well covered as the ones that stayed in New York. I believe our line is this: Matthys-Jacob-Matthys-Isaac-Matthys (born 26 Sept. 1773) - Christopher - John-Melvin-Thomas-Esther-Janice.

Hi Doug

My Pullens come into my tree a bit earlier with Susannah Pullen born 1805 London to Matthew and Ann Pullen. As far as I can tell Matthew and Ann only had one son who never married. Matthew's father may have been Samuel Pullen, a gardener and he may have come from Bristol but so far that is all I have managed to find out. Good luck with your research - maybe we'll be able to link our Pullens up some day.

Regards
Lyla
