Mr. Bailey,
I noticed a post you made on a WV "birth" site. You had a Bailey relative from Hancock County, WV. Well, I have a direct Bailey ancestor's brother that left Philadelphia after the Civil War and raised a family in Hancock, WV. If you are interested then let me know.

Mark,

About your question regarding the military records for your relative. You can try writing to the following address:

National Personnel Records Center
Military Personnel Records
9700 Page Avenue
St Louis, Missouri 63132-5100

You will need to provide the Name of the Servicemember, the Serial Number/Social Security Number (depending when they served, WWII would have been the Serial Number) and state your relationship and purpose. Provide as much information as you can and they may help you. Can't make any promises, though. I can only say that this is the address I used to get copys of my service records from over 25 years ago.

You can also call and ask if this kind of information might be available to you, if you send in the request. (314) 801-0800. You also might want to check out their webpage about genealogical research at: http://www.archives.gov/veterans/research/genealogy.html.

I would try the call, first, so that you don't waste your time writing and mailing something that they may just ignore. If you let them know that you have is basic records but are looking for the locations of where he served, they may allow you to send in the copy along with a request for the information.

I hope this helps you in your search.

Warmest regards,

Tony Myers

Thanks for checking. Apparently my father's family did not keep good family records. :-(
