Hi, I am researching relatives who lived in Fredericksburg, Richmond, Ernestown and Kingston from the from the mentioned time period (1780's to 1830's). I have checked a number of online sites such as Bill Martin's site and the Early Fredericksburg site.

Somewhere in the past 4 years, I remember someone mentioning the the early records from the Mecklenburg district were lost/destroyed. Is that true?

I am researching John Pencil, JR of Fredericksburg (born c1789) and his wife Fanny Jackson who married between 1810 and 1817. Fanny was from Richmond. I have their land petitions as a son & daughter of Loyalists. I cannot locate their marriage record or their children's birth records. The couple eventually moved to Waterloo in the 1830's and had their last 3 or 4 children there.

Oddly enough, both John's half-siblings and Fanny's siblings do show up in the Rev Langhorn and Rev McDowell records but John & Fanny do not. One supposed son, Jethro Pencil/Pencille, became a blacksmith in Kingston.

Should I give up on finding anyearly records from the Mecklenburg District? Or who should should i contact if some do exist? If not married by the Rev Langhorn or McDowell, where would the couple have gone to get married? Is it the court records from Mecklenburg District that were lost?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I believe I had responded a few years ago. I have many maps of Quebec> Lower Canada/Upper Canada. Mecklenburg was a district up to 1788 then became Midland> then divided more depending on year. "Waterloo" there are a number but I'd guess with date of 1830 you are speaking of GORE District. There are records for this Gore 1816 through 1840. The rest of the "Waterloo" records are only from and not complete 1851.

The Anglican Registers 1787> 1814 have Richmond, Ernestown, Fredericksburg all in Midland District. I will try to scan and send a few good maps

Thanks so much for this clear explanation of the districts and their timelines! So now where would I find Midland & Gore District records?

I know John & Fanny were in "Waterloo" by 1832 as possible child John Pencil lll is born there by then and they are on the Reach Twp. census by 1861 (although, the Mrs. J. Pencil listed looks like a second wife for John, Jr. by this time). I haven't been able to find BMD's in either of their known locations.
