Genealogy Wise

The Genealogy & Family History Social Network

Hello all,

I am new to this group and I thought I would introduce myself.  I am a professional genealogist based in Salt Lake City, UT and specialize in US military history (as well as Italian, French and British).  I also have Revolutionary War heroes in my family and I love the hunt for military men and women.  I have recently completed research for several clients reaching back to the Revolutionary War (one reached back to the Salem Witch Trials and beyond).  If there is anything I can help anyone with, please contact me.

I look forward to interacting with you all.

Nice to meet you, Robin!  I am planning a trip to Salt Lake City in September.  What would be the best way for me to prepare for the visit to the Family Search Center to do my research there?

How exciting Donna.  If you haven't been there before, it is a sight to see.  It can be overwhelming but those that work and volunteer there are amazing.  They are very helpful and insightful.  In order to maximize your time I would choose one line to focus on, maybe two, depending on the length of your visit, and go through the catalog to have a list of films and books to look at so you are not wasting too much time on the computer.  If you have all your film and book numbers on a spreadsheet and a printed simple pedigree to jot notes down on, you will save yourself some time.  Let me know when you are going to be in and I can maybe show you around!

Robin,

Welcome! I looked at your website, very nice! I wish you every success in your endeavors. This is a very good site to connect with a lot of people that share your interests and might be able to use your services. I will do my small part by adding your info to the list of resources I share with my direct contacts.

Stephen,

Thank you so much!  I look forward to interacting with you here and greatly appreciate you passing my information along!

Good morning, I also am new to the group.....On my husbands side of the family is David Fuller who i believe lived in

new Hampshire when he served in the RW.His widow filed to recieve a war pension and in the papers she states that David

was one of the men who gaurded Benedict Arnold. Is there any way to know if this is true or not??

I am at work at the moment and don't have the dates and places. Any help or direction would be very much appreciated.

thank you, Barb

Hello!  My name is Robin and I just joined the group.  I live in Wichita Falls, TEXAS (THE HOT! DRY! NO RAIN COUNTY) and currently working on my DAR application.  My link to DAR is William David Coy

Hi y'all.  My name is Vickey, a native-born "Florida Cracker".  I serve as the Genealogy Research Assistant at my local public library.  I'm also a Law / Government Documents university librarian.  Although I'm three quarters Southern Reb, all 3 of my Revolutionary War ancestors are located on the Yankee side of my family tree.

They are: Jacob and Albertus (Albert) Van Hoesen [father and son] and Hendrick (Henry) Staley.  They are all from the state of New York but served in different units during the war.  Albert and Henry became neighbors, after the war, and served as witnesses for each other's pension requests.  Eventually, a granddaughter of Albert married a grandson of Henry and my maternal grandfather descends from their union.

My biggest regret, since I became actively involved with genealogy at age 10, is that every twig on every branch of every tree in my family "forest" was already "in country" LONG before Castle Gardens or Ellis Island was ever built.  Oh, well.

I have memberships with Ancestry.com and footnote.com and will be glad to assist through those resources.
