I need a little help with what a southhampton Va clerk in 1867 added to a inventory of an estate sale.  The items sold are listed with the name of the buyer and diffrent symbols but not next to all the names.

Ex:

one dish pan       Patrick Warren  TN     .58

one pail             Sam Scott  NH            1.25

3 troughs           Arch Doles   TP     2.00

Also the symbols listed by other names

T"

kt

Pt

Anyone seen this before and what it might mean?

I'm sure that it is proablly the clerks shorthand which could mean anything but it is interesting that all the names with these marking, when looking in the 1870 census of that township they are all listed as Black.

I never want to jump to a conclusion.

Thanks,

Quan
