Hi, I am doing research on my mother's side of the family. Her maiden name is Lavergne. I have done well researching my ancestors using Ancestry and by collecting information from older relatives. I have a few puzzles in my research and it is difficult for me to solve these issues while living in California.

My biggest question surrounds my maternal great-great grandfather, Auguste Francois Martin. I know that he was born in Haute-Saône, France on May 2, 1849. He is reported to have died in 1903 but no one knows where he died or where is is buried. He had two wives that I know of and they were Rose De Lima Leduc and Melvina Mainville. Auguste married Melvina after Rose died in 1883.He lived in Sarsfield while married to Melvina. He had 4 children with Rose and 6 with Melvina.

There is some family lore that states he went to live with a Native Canadian woman, traveled to Louisiana and other parts of the US and possibly died in the US. Is there anyone on the board that shares Lavergne or Martin blood and comes from Russell County? Is there anyone that can help me discover what happened to Auguste Martin?

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this.

My mother also came from Sarsfield and many of the residents of Eastern Ontario moved to Windsor Ontario when Henry Ford opened a car manufacturing plant in what was known as Ford City. They were known as Laverne rather than Lavergne. Could it be that they dropped the g. This may assist you in your search. Good Luck.
Hi Ray,

Thanks for the tips. I did not know about the Ford plant in Windsor. I will see if I can find any links there. I did recently find a census for 1901 that list my great-great-grandfather as head of the household. He then apparently dies 2 years later and not in Sarsfield. It is a mystery. I will keep searching and maybe someone here will know something. Thanks again.

Sincerely, Bridget Makk
