Right now the one ancestor that is my HUGE BRICK WALL is John Thomas Jones from either Wales or London - as records show both. He married Jessie Hayes and emmigrated to Canada circa 1906. He was born Feb 1880 (one record states Middlesex England, and census records show Wales).

Any help is greatly appreciated......

Welcome, Cheryl-

Do you have death information on John Jones, his wife and children? Can you add the documents you have on him and his family, so we can help you find where to search next?

Kate
John died in 1952 in Toronto, Ontario Canada and is buried in Prospect Cemetery. John and wife Jessie HAYES immigrated to Canada from England in 1906 with my husband's grandfather as a 1 year old infant. Jessie is also buried in Prospect Cemetery next to her husand - she died in 1944.

Jessie's parents are Henry HAYES (1847-1930) and Anna Elizabeth VALENTINE (1857-1910)... The HAYES family is from London and the VALENTINE's are from Surrey.

As for the JONES side....I have so little to go on - and prior to John Thomas it is mostly conjecture and possibilities - nothing concrete.
John is believed to have been the son of John JONES and wife Mary - no proof.
John & wife Mary had children named: Elizabeth (1867), John T. (1880), Edwin/Edward (1869) and Owen (1885).
I do have a copy of his and Jessie's death certificates, as well as a copy of their immigration information and the Canadian census from 1911. I'll try to get them uploaded.

If ANYONE can help, I'd be so eternally grateful. Searching for JONES in England and Wales is akin to searching for a needle in a haystack.

That's the reason I stated that it was "believed" that he was the son of John and Mary Jones. Because the only John Thomas Jones located on the census was that family.

I tried locating him on the 1901 census, but because I do not have any more exact birth information, it is nearly impossible. There are too many returns of John Jones' to find either him or his father, and a name like Mary Jones doesn't help much.

One reason I feel this may be the right family is because John T. named his son Edward Henry - which I believe is his brother's name not Edwin - Henry being the name of Jessie's father. But this could just be a case of my wanting to believe it more than it actually being true.

I have been unable to locate any obituary records for John or Jessie. The only way I was able to get a picture of the tombstone from Prospect was to contact the cemetery itself and talk to the lady at the desk. She was nice enough to go out in the dead of winter to find the stones and take a picture. I asked about the information in the file, but she never answered that question.

I just sent an email to Leueen to see if she can come up with an obit for John, Jessie or Edward (John's son).

We'll see if anything comes of it......
Gene
Apparently there is no obit in the Toronto Star because the relevant pages are missing. At this time Leueen is unable to look in the Globe and Mail - but doubts there will be one because this paper tends to have fewer obits.

I can try to see if there is one in the Telegram, but haven't had much success on that front with the "ask the librarian" feature.

I've tried to locate the obit for John's son, Edward Henry (born 1905). He died in 1970 in Rockton, Ontario. According to his death certificate, he was cremated, so I'm not sure if there will be anything of major importance in the obit, if one is found.

Edward Henry is my husband's grandfather. His wife - Ethel (Shaw) Jones - just died in 2008 5 days shy of 100 years old! But she was also cremated, and I have the memorial card given at the service, along with the program that gave her life story. They were married 28 June 1930 in Toronto, but do not have any other information - and my father in law doesn't have much of a memory after 2 small strokes recently.

Edward's birth (I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy) could be one of two births I've found notations for. It is either: Vol. 1d pg 581 June Quarter - Wandworth, England OR it could be
Vol. 11b Pg 330 - June Quarter - St. Asaph, Denbingshire, Flintshire, England.

Edward is listed as 2 years old (birth 1905) on the 1907 immigration Ship log - as well as listed June 1905 on the 1911 Canadian Census.
This information came from a friend of my father-in-law's. Of course Ted didn't think about documenting anything, other than his father's birth. Since he already knew his dad's name, he didn't bother citing anything.

Just heard from a distant cousin of my mother-in-law's, who has been trying to help research from England, when we've found concrete records.

Anyway, Charles just emailed me a copy of the marriage information. It shows John's father was John.

FAT LOT OF HELP THAT WAS!

Here is the 1901 WALES census for John, Jessie and the kids. Now you can see why this line has been so frustrating.... none of the records seem to match when it comes to the birth places of this family. Each record is different, and I haven't been able to accurately locate them.
