I run Ubuntu too, I found it was the only one that set up dual boot with windows automatically in the Grub & have stuck with it ever since, don't need the dual boot now as I only need windows to run the NBI so use that on win4lin. I have a genealogy database of over 26k names, but over time some of the links have broken, so lifelines won't let me import a gedcom file to it, shame!

Great to see the group.
Lifelines has always been my preferred genealogy software - so much faster and more flexible than anything else. Although I now have Ubuntu at home as my primary desktop, I used to run Windows XP for years and even after trying many of the commercial family history programs kept going back to Lifelines because I could never quite record information the way it should be.
I also get worried about the longevity of the various proprietary database formats - using open source software with text-based output makes me more confident that all my hard work in collating the family tree will be around for generations to come.

Now my database is over 26,000 names I have trouble with Gramps it keeps crashing on me. I use TNG as my main database on as I have an unlimited web-space provider, but on my computer I use Gene-web which was created for Linux, but also works on Windows too, so transfering information with those "windows" friends is easier than relying on gedcom files that hate being transfered from one programme to another :-)

Happy to see this group! :) I have used Gramps in the past, but I haven't had the time to rebuild my info lately.
