I would love to pass genealogy data back and forth with you.  I am still working on my All-Surname-Study for Cripe surname.  I'm working thru the last of the 1920 census now, will start the 1930 census sometime later this year.  Would love to discuss Cripe with you via email.  I'm at a conference right now, will have more time next week to respond further.

My cousin brought this group to my attention. His dad did a LOT of research on the Cripe family. I know he also spent some time in Germany doing research there.  He passed away several years ago and I guess there are stacks of papers.  Anyway, I have the more basic names and dates type of information for much of our family. I am 7th generation from Jacob Greib and trace back to him 7 times by three of his children (John, Sr, Susannah, and Samuel). I can send you what I know - and I'll talk to my cousin about delving into my uncle's old research.  I am a total newbie at this, so I can tell I have a LOT to learn!

I met a new Cripe Kissin Cousin, about 2-3 weeks ago. He sent me an email saying "someone told him he should contact me". He's REALLY a Cripe! All four of his grandparents are Cripes, he has FIVE lines back to Jacob Greib, maybe more! He sent me a bunch of stuff on the first five generations of Cripes (thru Jacob's son: Jacob). He also runs a Cripe newsletter and he goes to the Cripe reunions...did you know there were Cripe reunions? I didn't. He lives in Elkhart, so he can do a lot of Cripe research that I can't get to easily. Oh, his name is Jeff. He's a pretty neat guy. He would be my 3rd cousin once removed. David, he would be your 3rd cousin once removed too, since his great-great-great-grandfather is our great-great-grandfather.

Hi, Spencer! I have Millers in my line as well. In fact, two of the Miller brothers married two of the Cripe sisters, so yes, you're right about that. I suppose I should have also added MILLER in the title for this discussion because they are as embedded as the CRIPEs and ULRICHs. I would be interested in your ancestry thru the MILLER/CRIPE line. It might fill in a few gaps that I have. I can't show you mine right at this instant, only cuz I'm on the road. We'll talk later. If you want to email instead, use

I only have a handful of Cripes in my tree, but to show that they belong in our family..... I have a Miller couple that I can get back to 8 different ways.

That was later. When he was about 20 yrs old, just out on his own he was a gardener at Notre Dame for a short time.

I thought Irving was the brother that was a city councilman in S. Bend. I just remember hearing what Bob said.

Hi, Gladys! Now if we can just interest other CRIPES! I just found "Irving" CRIPE in the 1900 census, as an employee at University of Notre Dame as a farm laborer. He's also listed in the 1900 census with his parents in South Bend, IN. These are duplicate entries; just goes to show the enumerators don't always get it right. With the family history thru Sadie CRIPE's interview, I already knew that her brother Irvin also worked at University of Notre Dame.
