Hi,

I am researching the Holt family on behalf of my friend.  One of her ancestors is William Greely Holt (1831 Herman, Penobscot, Maine - 1914 St Arnaud, Victoria Australia.  William emigrated to Australia sometime before his marriage in 1856.  His parent's were William Holt (1792 Bangor. Penobscot, Main - 1882 Maine)  and Susanna H Severance Mansell (1795 Maine - 1848 - )  Furthest ancestor may be Nicholas (1602 - 1685) and Elizabeth (nee Short 1606 -1656)  Holt.  There is still quite a bit of research to undertake to verify family lines.

Hi Danny,

That information does help but the other day I ran across a U.S. Census that has information that points toward Sam's parents being J.E. and Maunn J. Holt. I had also always thought that my William S.'s middle name was Samuel and not Silas due to everyone in my family calling him Sam. I realize I could be wrong on that point because nicknames are given for all kinds of reasons. Still, I wish I could find J.E. and Mauhn J. Holt now so that I could really make sure which set of parents Sam belongs with. Thanks again, Danny. I know that your time and energy is as precious to you and mine is to me and I really appreciate your help!

Hi Jeannie,

I did a search for William S. Holt at familysearch.org and found William Silas Holt who was born 3 Feb 1883 Graffic, Crawford, Ar died 22 Feb 1936 in Sparks Hospital, Fort Smith and burried at Pope Cemetery, Dyer, Crawford, Ar.

Wife: Beedie Moore who was born 29 Oct 1880 in Graffic, Crawford, Ar and died 1 Apr 1976 in Poteau, Le Flore, Ok married 9 Jul 1901 in Van Buren, Crawford, Ar

Father: James Valentine Holt born about 1857

Mother: Louisa Jane Pigg born about 1861

When you do a search at familysearch.org you can find the name and address of the submitter. So you might be able to contact them to see what documentation they have on the person listed.

Hope this has helped you.

I have been looking for William S. "Sam" Holt for about 15 years now. He married Versie H. Roark of TN. However, they were married and lived in Dunklin County, MO on 30 September 1905. I've found quite a bit of information on Versie but I have no luck when it comes to Sam. It is possible he was born in July 1883 in MO and his parents were J. E. and Mauhn J. Holt. It is also possible he was born in February 1883 in Crawford County, Arkansas and his parents were James Valentine and Louisa Jane (Pigg) Holt. I'd really appreciated any leads. Thank you! =)

I don't know exactly how long John W. Holt and his children lived in Garvin Co. According to census information they were in Garvin Co. in 1900 and in Grady Co. in 1910. John died in Montague Co. Texas in 1918. At that time his children were living around Wichita Falls Texas. I couldn't find a conection with Idabel Holt in my records but if you come up with something let me know.

My great grandfather married Idabel Holt. They lived in Stephens Co which is the county next to Garvin Co actually they lived about 12 miles away from that area..... so our Holts could be related. I'll have to look through the info I already have for your family.

My Greatgreatgrandfather was George P. Holt. He was born in AR in 1849. He married Martha Dunfield in Conway, AR in 1867. They had three children together (William T. in 1869, Verna Mary in 1875 and Andrew in 1879). After Martha's death in 1885 he and the children moved to Montague County TX near Bowie to work on a ranch where his brother (John W.) was working. In 1886 he married a young girl (Mollie Blair) and they had one child (Layton my greatgrandfather) in July 1887. George P. died in Sep 1887.

We knew very little about George until recently when I stumbled upon a marriage license for George P. Holt and Mollie Blair when I was doing research at familysearch.org. We did know that there were three other children that were sent to an orphanage after his death.

I was told a story about how after the birth of the baby Mollie's brother made a trip to TX to take Mollie and the baby to visit her family in OK. Just a few hours after they left for OK George was found dead face down in breakfast plate and Mollie and her brother was wanted by the Texas Rangers. I don't believe this is true because Mollie remarried just one county over and later moved with George's brother John W to Garvin County OK.

I have traced my Holt line back to my 3rd greatgrandfather. He was Shadrack Holt, born in TN 1815 died Aug 1860 during a Flu epidemic in Crawford County AR. He also lost two sons earlier that same year to the flu, Thomas A. who was 3 and Charles D. who was 9. His wife (Millie Lawson) never remarried. He had one daughter (Margaret A.) that I haven't been able to find much out on at all and two other sons (John W. born 1846 and George P. born 1849). I tracked John W. from AR to TX and parts of OK back to Montague County TX where he died in 1918. George P. Holt was my greatgreatgrandfather I will write more about him in another post.

If anyone else is researching this line I would love to hear from you.
