Welcome to this group! We hope to discuss and share info on our families who emigrated from Germany to the Volga region of Russia and ultimately settled in the United States.

My paternal ancestors left Saxony, Germany in the mid 1700s and settled along the Volga River in the Saratov Province of Russia. Join me in this group and let's share all we can about those hardy pioneers.

My mom's side is 100% Volga German. Kramers-Schells from Sewalt and Kinderknecht-Gerstner from Marienthal. It appears that the Kramers were among the first settlers in Sewalt. Kinderknechts emmigrated from Blieskastell, Saarland, GER first to Louis then to Marienthal by 1780. The info I have on the Kramers is sketchy and not well documented at all prior to their arrival in Jan 1907.

My family wasn't technically Volga Germans, they were Volhynian, from the town of Uljanowka, near Zhitomir. My 3rd-great-grandfather, Ludwig Joseph, his wife Justine Witt, and their children Samuel, Gottlieb, Justine, and Wilhelmine, and their grandchildren, all emigrated over the course of several years to Manitoba, Canada. My branch of the family (Sam and his kids) only stayed there a couple years before moving to Anaconda, Montana.

I have discovered, via Google Search, that there was a Village of Pfeifer, on the Volga. This intrigues me because of my surname.

Any connections to: Pfeifer, Hohn (also: Hoehn, Hayne), or Schmidt?

My origins appear to be Weinheim, near Heidelberg, then Josefsberg, Galizia but it occurs to me to wonder about those who might have ventured further.

Hi, I guess I ought to introduce myself- I go by Storm Crow. I am the niece of Emma Schwabenland Haynes, but unfortunately, the genealogy bug didn't hit me until after her death. Before you ask, I barely knew her and do NOT have access to her ground-breaking work. I do have the Schwabenland family photo album and will be posting some up- after my son teaches me how- again! Some of the photos are unidentified. My family settled on the west coast. The family names are Schwabenland, Miller, Kunzel/Kinzel, Giebelhaus, Steitz, Yost, Bier and Glanz. I belong to Ancestry, World Vital Records and a few other sites.

My family is from the village of Obermonjou in the Volga river Valley. The entire village were Catholic Germans who came to Russia in 1746. In 1878 the entire village up and moved to the U.S. and founded the town of Munjor, Ellis County, Kansas. Beffort/Befort is my father's side of the family. Other names connected to the Beffort/Befort family are: Ernst, Stecklein, Goetz, Doerfler

Our "Schadt" and "Brum" families were in Schilling, Russia in 1764. They immigrated to the United States in the early 1900's and settled in Newark, Essex, NJ; Oswego, Oswego, NY; Lincoln, Nebraska, and Michigan.
