Guest Speaker – Dr. Anne Lindsay, Noted Historian

Dr. Lindsay is a settler scholar, archivist and historian who is currently involved in several efforts to identify and honour the children buried in Residential School cemeteries.  She initially came to our attention through the Friends of St. John’s Cathedral Cemetery for the assistance she is giving there in identifying some of the early unmarked graves in one of Winnipeg’s oldest cemeteries.

People in our association will be especially interested in hearing more about a recent discovery of an early grave from 1813 of settler Hector Maclean who died the first year in the settlement.

I would like to connect with other descendants of John Pritchard b1777 - d1865.

Is there a place we can search other RRSettler downlines?  Also, is there a place where we can submit our downlines?

If there is a link to answer my questions, please post it here.Thank you.

Does anyone know how to contact the St. Clements Historical Committee.  Does anyone even know of this group, or someone that may be a member?

Thank you - I will contact you privately. You might want to delete that post below with your address. Just in case!

In the meantime, perhaps you could set up a discussion group for descendants of Donald Gunn and his wife (Dicsussion Forum above) that way people who are interested don't need to keep scrolling through this section trying to pick up the various threads. Thanks!

I also know another researcher here in Kenora who has done work on the family (she is also a descendant). I'll try to get her to join here. You might be able to share some information with her...

Hi Robert!

I"m attaching Donald's HBC bio sheet for you, in case you haven't already seen it. Are you aware of the history of Manitoba that he wrote?

I'd be very interested in learning more/obtaining a copy of Joyce Anaka's book. Do you have contact info at all? gunn_donald.pdf

Robert,

Privacy laws in Canada prevent us from giving out lists of members of the Association.  Membership is $10/year and includes 2 or 3 newsletters, and lots of info.  You can email me at home cathiemorgan7@gmail.com and I will give you some email addresses for people to contact about membership, genealogy, etc.

Cathie - Thank you for responding.  I have a 1997 copy of "The Selkirk Settlers of Red River and their Descendants"  I am listed in the book (Robert James Park - #8040) as a descendant of Donald Gunn.  I am assuming that my cousin (Joyce (Gunn) Anaka must have provided the information to the Association as she has been doing quite a bit of Gunn research and has already written one book on Donald Gunn and his descendants.

If possible I wanted to get a list of members of the Association and possibly become a member myself.  I am assuming that being listed in the book does not automatically make you a member.  Also, I would like to get updates of possible additional descendants of Donald Gunn that may have been added after 1997.

HI Robert,

The Lord Selkirk Association's website is undergoing changes.  We have to get that contact info changed.  What would you like to know about your family?  I can put you in touch with someone who can help you.

I am new to this group and am interested in finding out more about my family line.  I am the great great grandson of Donald Gunn and Margaret (Swain) Gunn throught their son Donald Gunn and Caroline Ballendine.  Donald and Caroline's daughter Margaret married John Park and they are my grandparents.

Also, I have tried leaving messages on the Lord Selkirk Assoc. web site and have never received a response - Is anyone still there?
