My paternal ancestors arrived in St. Louis between 1880 and 1910 (from Poland and Lithuania), and my maternal ancestors arrived in St. Louis between 1920 and 1934 (from Texas, and Illinois). I have lived in St. Louis my entire life (40 years) except for a few years during college.

I am researching my grandmother's side Billie Lee Wall, parents Arthur Wall and Ora May Henson (these 2 didnt marry) Nothing is known of her father except he was a pro golfer. Ora's Henson line settled in SeMO from Marshall co, KY, before that was Rutherford, NC.

Also am researching hubby's grandfather Henry F. Gibson b. 1881 in Louisville, KY and died 1955 in St. Joseph, Mo, wife was Ollie E. Reams they divorced and she apparently married a Harris first name unknown and had 2 children Richard and Helen before marrying Wilbur Robertson. I do not know what happen to the second husband but will keep searching. Ollie died in 1964 where she lived from about 1930 on in Trenton, Grundy, MO

Glad to be here

Hi John,

I am Jené. My maternal line is from Missouri. The Shefflers came to Joplin @1900 from Wisconsin. The DeVoes came to Joplin @1930 from Nebraska (via California). The Wests were in Camden County 1870-1880, Dallas County 1900, and Hickory County 1910-1930. The Joneses were in Dallas county from at least 1850-1880. They were in Hickory County from 1900-1910.

My Mother's immediate family had moved to California during her high school years. She joined the Air Force and met my Dad who was from Alabama.
My maternal ancestors all arrived in Missouri from Kentucky some time in the early 1800s - the latest of whom I'm aware being in the 1850s. Most if not all of them were ardent Confederates and settled either near St. Joe or in Cooper County. Alas, I know of only one cousin who still lives there but we all love the "Show Me" State.
My husband and I both grew up in St. Louis, but only one of our four parents were born in Missouri. This was my mother, Adelle Dorrance Strickler. Her father was James Henry Dorrance born in Missouri (probably Jefferson County) around 1856. His line dead ends with his parents, William T. Dorrance and Mary Murphy. They died when he was four, so most of the family stories came from his foster parents, who were named Lloyd.

My only evidence so far is what I have found in several census records plus his death certificate — all of which are official hearsay.
Hi! My Missouri links are Melchesedick Duncan McLEAN (and his named is spelled so many ways that it isn't funny!) He was born in 1827 in Lawrence County, Tennessee and moved to Pike County, Missouri after 1860 with his wife and five or six children. His daughter, Martha Jane McLEAN married James Albert BONDURANT in 1877 in Audrain County, Missouri, Martha Jane and James Albert movesd on to Colorado and settled there. I can not find a death date for Melchesedick Duncan McLEAN but I am assuming he died in Missouri after 1870 but before 1900 but not positive. James Albert BONDURANT was born in 27 March 1854 in Curryville,Missouri (do not know the county). He was the son of William W. BONDURANT and Susan LACY. And last but not least Amos Terrill HIGDON and Vinnie Dull BARNETT and they were in the Indepence, Jackson County, Missouri area. I do have more information all the lsited indviduals ... just ask and I will share.

My father was born in St Mary's, Ste Genevieve County, but grew up in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Some of his family have been in Missouri since before 1800. My mother was born in Reynolds County, Missouri. Some of her family have been in Missouri since about 1805. Both lines have had some infusion of "foreign" blood, both Irish and German. Most of my research has been focused on the southeastern/bootheel region of Missouri as that is where most of the family has lived for the past 200 years. I have discovered more cousins than I thought could exist in this area as the main families were quite hardy as well as prolific and many generations had 8-10 children of whom most, if not all, survived to adulthood and repeated the process. Many also lived to be in their 80s and 90s and a few made it past 100. Most of the FOSTERS lived in and around Lincoln County, Missouri, with one son, my gg-grandfather, moved to the Cape Girardeau/Stoddard Couny area.

After many moves, I have wound up living in Cape Girardeau and have enjoyed the access to the county archives as well as both courthouses here in Cape as well as the courthouse in the various counties in region. It has made work on the related lines much more enticing, rather than just a necessity.
I am from MO originally, lived in St. Louis until 1980 and my paternal ancestors were there from the early 1800's. They were in TN and VA before that. My direct line is HOUSE. I belong to the DAR, after submitting info on ADAM HOUSE, who was my 3rd great grandfather. I welcome any and all info someone else might have. Most of my ancestors were from Washington County, MO and St. Francois County, MO
Other family names are FORSHEE, COLEMAN, BUTT, MOON. I am also researching my husband's line, which includes BARRON, YOUNT, MCFEE, and many others.
My family has been in Northwest Missouri (Buchanan, Clinton, Clay, Platte Cos.) for quite a few generations. From Fayette Co., Kentucky, the GRIFFITHs and BRINKs came in the 1850's; from Ireland, the WHALENs, DANAHERs, MCKENNAs, KANEs, and CLARKs came after 1865. I'd love to correspond with anyone who might be connected to these families in NW Missouri.
Thanks!
