I have just join the group, let me introduce my work.

I'm very intresseted in emigrants from the Falköping area in Sweden. The area goes under the name Falbygden and have 52 parishes. The town Falköping is the highest point of the railway between Göteborg - Stockholm. From the area almost 10 000 persons emigrated.

I work on a database with those and their families in the old and new country. So far the base has 31 000 individuals.

So if any of you have information or looking for persons who were born in this area, I'm intressted. So far this summer I have helped two groups from US, who have been here on a visit to find ancestors and relatives here in Sweden.

Please look at my website http://www.emigrant.se to find out more about my work.

Great area. My relatives are from futher up (Örebro) but I have fond memories from Falköping in the summer of 1963 when I spent several months there. I drove thru recently and recognized very little... much growth. I remember looking out over the valley and watching the sailplanes taking off from Mösseberg.

In the middle of the town, there used to be a windmill. Is it still there_
It must be a lot of changes since 1963. The city has grown.

The windmill is still there but has no wings.

The sailplans take off from the neighbour mountain Ålleberg. The royal gliding school has their base there, here the instructers of gliders in Sweden get their education.

Mösseberg is more of a outdoor mountain, it has skii tracks, two slalom slopes. A zoo for kids, viewtower. The camping and cottage village of Falköping is there too.

26th July the yearly Nasco Yankee Meeting took place. Was out with my camera, some of the pictures you can see at http://www.falbygdsanor.se/en/english.html
very interesting project and I am going stepping in with bated breath but have doubts. I have an ancestor who, here in Australia, was known as John Johnson. I have his marriage certificate which states he was born in Gottenburg Sweden and he is the son of Peter Johnson (Occ Cooper) and Albertine. he was born 9 Aug 1839 and he came to Australia c 1862. He claims he was a fisherman by trade but I have also heard he was a carpenter and recently found something saying he was an Iron Moulder or something like that.
I have a photograph of him taken here is Australia c 1870 with wife Anne O'Farrell and they had one son Peter. I also have a photograph of a woman who is supposed to have been his sister Sylvia who went to live in america.
I know it is all a bit airy fairy but that is all I have to go on. I have been searching for this man for 30 yrs and getting no-where. Any hints or information would be a miracle.
thanks
Mmm... it must be a hard nut to crake. But you have the birthdate and that's something good to have. Gothenburg or as in Swedish Göteborg don't means that it must be the city. It can also mean the whole area around.
